A rather charming antique octagonal folding table, this type of table comes from the North Western Region of the Netherlands. In oak and often referred to as a ship’s, tavern or campaign table from the 19th century but often used as a vendage table for wine. It is of solid oak construction with the top being of joined planks in octagonal form with foliate carved border and figural carved centre. This table has great sculptural appeal and is as decorative as a work or art.
Raised on splayed, square section legs with fluted details and bulbous turned lower legs, the base is joined together by foliated carved stretchers and a shapely gate leg. This type of folding systems allows for the table to easily be collapsed with the removal of a single wooden peg so that it can be stored away.
