A superb 1930's parasol umbrella retailed by Kendall and Sons, Paragon model made by S.Fox & Co.

The umbrella is in general good order with it opening nice and firm, no broken links. The main shaft is in ebonised beech with the crook handle being of molded dark cane, this is capped by a solid silver dove with inset glass eyes. It is hallmarked as stirling silver, London 1931. The tip at the base is in brass with a collar of silver where the fabric joins the shaft. Inside the Kendall name and logo are located at the top and on one of the steel spines in the model name and S.Fox & Co. name. There is some wear and tear, pin prick holes in the canopy and worn ebonising around the beech shaft.

Kendall and Sons was an umbrella, rainwear and ladies wear company founded in 1870, it was bought by Combined English Stores in 1977, and subsequently by Hepworths, a Leeds based menswear company. It was then converted into the Next ladieswear chain. While S.Fox and Co are still going today albeit no longer owned by the Fox family, the Paragon model is their most popular and while they do produce and sell new ones the still take in and repair/restore the old and antique models made by their company.

S.Fox & Co had such distinguished customers as the British Royal family, John F Kennedy, and Ralph Lauren (not to mention that perfect British gentleman John Steed from the classic British TV series The Avengers), Fox umbrellas really are the Rolls Royce of the brolly.
